Podcast SummarySounds of Oakland Underground of the San Francisco Bay Area. We are talking some serious house music such as Garage, Deep house, Tech House and minimal techno. You will also find sprinkles of downtempo, funk and rare soul. Actually anything that sounds good can be found here. Believe that! Come on into the Suga Shack where beautiful music lives and thrives! About DJ Ra fa' ELGrowing up in a household where the likes of Hector Lavoe, Tito Puente, Stevie Wonder, The Beatles, Teddy Pendergrass, War, Spyro Gyra and Miles Davis could be heard, it is fitting that the musical stylings of Rafael Acevedo span a multitude of musical tastes and genres. Trained in both piano and the trumpet, it was only a matter of time before Rafael, now known as DJ Ra fe' El, would find a way to have music surround him in some sort of capacity and help to set the soundtrack of audible colors throughout the rest of his life. After graduating as a breakdancer in the late 80's, it was the turntables, mixer, and vinyl records from the local Tower Records that would soon be capturing the attention of this music connoisseur. It would eventually lead to holding court on wedding and high school dancefloors as a mobile DJ, and allowed Rafael to hone his skills on beatmatching songs, 'reading the crowd', and working the dancefloor with exceptional music programming. Flash forward to the late 90's with the underground rave culture in full swing, it was then that Rafael was first introduced to house and 'electronic' music. It was this intro to 'house' that reflected the many different types of genres that Rafael was raised and exposed to at an early age but to also open the door to other forms of music such as broken beat, latin jazz, world, drum n bass, downtempo and jazzanova just to name a few. Years later Rafael would also be influential in the local underground live-music scene during his time as a member of the San Francisco based downtempo band Karmacoda (www.karmacoda.com). Although Rafael has been humbly honored to play at such venues in San Francisco such as The Bubble Lounge, Element, Roe, Sno-Drift, 111 Minna, 1015, Harlot, The Church in Denver, Colorado, and Le Rex in Paris, France, he can now be found as one of the resident DJs at Somar Bar in Oakland, California, where his passion in music can be shared with those reveling in unison on the dance floor and contributing to soul therapy. You may contact Rafael on his bi-weekly Podcast,on Facebook, or send him an email at djrafaelacevedo@gmail.com.Committed to keeping the spirit of house music alive, well and kickin in the city of Oakland! http://www.facebook.com/djrafaelacevedo http://www.facebook.com/DivinylEcho Influences: Dennis Ferrer, FRANKIE KNUCKLES, Quentin Harris, TMB, Osunlade, Timmy Regisford, Kerri Chandler, Joe Claussell, Pastaboys, Tony Humphries, Jamie Lewis, ATFC,, MR V, Simon Dunmore, Aaron Ross, Mark Farina, Derrick Carter, Johnny Fiasco, S, Jerome Sydenham, MAW, Scott Wozniak djs: Kimani Taylor, Jere Bui, Rahiem Jihad, DeepCee, Jayvi Velasco, Bebe Hayes, Norm Stradley, Demilo, Garth , Jeno, Simon, ComeUnity, Release, The Gathering,David Harness, Frankie Boissy, Doc Martin, Ruben Mancias, Jellybear, Jay-J, Mark Farina, and Behrouz Much love to spaces that helped to nurture and cultivate House Music such as the Wherehouse in Chicago, Paradise Garage in NYC and The End Up in San Francisco, this station strives to bring the best in Soulful House music and all os it various forms.
